We are seeking an experienced Technical Designer for our Tissue company. This position will be located in Anderson. The Technical Designer will t ake functional requirements from concept to design using 2-D and 3-D CAD software to design and oversee fabrication and installation of processes, piping, structural/facilities, and electrical/controls to support Production, Product Development, Facilities and Engineering improvement projects. Responsible individual and subject matter expert for all CAD software and tools at the Anderson location. System Administrator for technical document management system.
Primary responsibilities include:
Promote an action oriented safety culture embracing safety as a core value, instilling and exemplifying a safety mindset for all team members resulting in an incident free workplace.
Work in conjunction with Quality department to ensure finished product satisfies all finished product quality standards.
Using general manufacturing experience and equipment/process knowledge creates process, mechanical, electrical, and structural designs to solve problems and support Production, Product Development, and Engineering improvement projects. Oversees outside fabrications and final installations to ensure desired result is achieved. Determines what equipment is needed, estimates cost, and creates engineering design documents.
Using limited sketches, works with Product Development and Process Engineering to prepare CAD documentation used for product changes.
Using operations knowledge and working closely with Production, Warehousing, Facilities and Engineering, prepares structural building / equipment arrangement CAD drawings for building modifications, insurance underwriting, compliance permitting, office changes/additions, and new buildings.
Contacts vendors to get quotes, writes capital requests and tracks purchase orders to ensure timeliness of project.
During startup, sets up AutoCAD vault system to build the document database. Acts as the system administrator for the AutoCAD Vault system which includes ensuring effective document control of drawings and specs. Maintains and improves drawing control and management system to protect company intellectual property.
Oversees contract work to ensure compliance with purchase order/contract documents for assigned contracts.
Ensures OSHA, environmental and company procedural compliance in personal activities.
The ideal candidate should possess the following skills:
Requires a BS degree in 2-D/3-D product/machine design, co-op or intern experience, or a two year AS degree in CAD or design disciplines, plus equivalent work experience.
3 - 5 years' experience creating for construction design drawings using latest CAD technology for process, piping, structural, mechanical, and electrical/controls disciplines. Provide field checks, implement design improvement concepts, and provide fabrication/installation oversight.
Experience in performing structural calculations and background in fluid mechanics as well as pump sizing.
Exposure to field construction as related to site projects.
Experience managing vendors and manages small to medium size projects to include ensuring that project remains on time and within scope.
Has direct experience in overseeing outside machine shop fabrications and on-site trade contractors.
Proficient in AutoCAD 2014 Mechanical or newer
Proficient in Excel and able to modify spreadsheets and create hyperlinks.
Proficient in Adobe and be able to modify files in pdf format.
Can handle multiple projects and rapid changes with limited supervision in a fast paced 24/7 manufacturing environment.
Strong personal computer CAD proficiency and other Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to troubleshoot computer problems.
Ability to setup and maintain all software and hardware used.
Ability to customize AutoCAD software and hardware used.
Good communication skills.
Ability to work creatively.
Ability to use all measuring tools, micrometers, vernier calipers, etc.Ability to modify drawings, such as P&ID's, from redline markups.
Ability to work well with others.
